Huge Snowstorm in Southwestern France in May
636 inches of snow fall in Southern France out of nowhere
I couldn't believe my eyes today. Global warming is out of control. I came home from a nice walk in Toulouse. The weather was warm and pleasant. It looked like it might rain. It was a little humid and balmy but warm. Instead a snowstorm of a magnitude I have never seen before was unleashed. It poured rain, sleet, and snow for nearly 1 hour straight. The sleet and snow was battering my terrace windows and doors. It sounded like a drumline. There was almost 8 inches of accumulation. You might think so what, but this is southern France and it is May 15th. This is unprecendented. Global Warming is very real.

Snow from around the world yesterday
It snowed in New York City yesterday according to the news.
I read a variety of news articles about how it snowed or sleeted, can you say that, in various palces around the world yesterday. Did you experience strange or abnormal weather yesterday? What was your weather like?

I have gotten a few emails tellng me that it wasn't so much snow. I guess my point was that it was in southern France where snow is rare and it was on May 15th, that combination is what makes it so strange.
That wasn't snow but hail... and while this one was impressive and unusual it is totaly normal in may to have hail storm in the area of Toulouse.
You are the first person to say such a thing. The old lady who lives below me in my building, who has lived in the apt sicne 1974, said she had never seen such a thing. Sure she may be 86 and have a fuzzy memory, but this doesn't really explain it well. I mean did you see the accumulation?
I still could very vividly remember one day in the hot July many, many years ago under the Mediterranean climate of Yugoslavian coast. It was snowing - a real snow for a few minutes. We were all rushing out of the old stone built house after the short, but strong earthquake. The combination of earthquake and snow was so very wired.

I am quite familiar with many different sorts of snow, because I am coming from Alpine area and I also love any sport based on snow, and I think that I differ snow and hail quite easy.

Snow disappears very fast in spring or summer, hail stays longer, because of its much higher compact mass (frozen water - ice).
